Lightning was one of those spells that just about every witch had inked into their skin simply because it was ridiculously easy and very flashy. Amick was no exception. The glyph had been etched onto his shoulder so that the deceptively simple lines were just visible when he wore a loose shirt.
Emphasis on the "had been."
Relearning the spell now that wild magic had warped his own powers was a whole other story. What was once easy was now difficult enough that Amick could feel a headache threatening behind his eyes. He needed to stop grinding his teeth.
"Your problem is that you're too use to being in control," Nyx said. They were both standing in a warded circle scratched into the earth. "Lightning doesn't lend it self to being controlled."
"My problem is that the spell doesn't work," snarled Amick.
Nyx wrapped his arms around him from behind. Amick held himself still and stiff just to show how mad he was. The dragon didn't seem put off at all.
"Lightning," Nyx said the word in his ear, low and rough. "Lightning can't be controlled or forced or tamed." The dragon slid one hand down Amick's arm until their fingers lay one atop the other. "You have to coax it." His eyes slid shut of their own accord. "Make it want to bend to your will." Amick could feel the dragon's breath and it made him shiver. "Make it need to bend to your will."
He very much doubted they were still talking about lightning.
Suddenly, Amick could taste ozone and feel the sharp prickle of electricity. He opened his eyes to see ball lightning dancing just under his hand, like a dog eager to please its master. Finally.
"In wild magic, your emotions and responses are just as important at your will and intent," Nyx explained.
"Wonderful. Now I'll have a hard-on every time I do this spell."
